Kramer, Fosberg Advance In Ithaca

Pair Joins Spacciapolli In Contention For Top-20 Ribbons

ITHACA –Three local swimmers are still in contention for ribbons after the opening day of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Swimming & Diving Championships on Friday at Ithaca College.

Southwestern junior Natalie Fosberg is seeded 20th in today’s 50-yard freestyle finals after a season- and personal-best time of 24.51 seconds on Friday.

Frewsburg/Falconer junior Madison Kramer is seeded 21st in the 100-yard backstroke finals after a school-record and personal-best time of 58.45 seconds.

Fredonia/Silver Creek/Forestville’s Victoria Spacciapolli will take the No. 25 seed into today’s 100-yard breaststroke finals after she swam a 1:07.59 in Friday’s preliminaries.

Swimmers will compete in three separate heats today with seed Nos. 1-10 vying for medals and seed Nos. 11-20 competing for ribbons. Seed Nos. 21-30 can still bump up into the next group once Federation swimmers are taken out of the mix.

Southwestern senior Grace Wood closed out her Trojans career by finishing 36th in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:57.69 and tying for 41st in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.32 seconds.

Fosberg also tied for 45th in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.71 while Kramer took 52nd in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 59.87.

Fredonia/Silver Creek/Forestville’s Elizabeth Pucci-Schaefer finished 19th in the 1-meter diving competition. Pucci-Schaefer put up a score of 196.00 in the preliminaries and 314.10 in the semifinals before finishing her day with a 402.65 in the finals.

Panama/Clymer/Maple Grove’s Hope Marshall finished 39th in 1-meter diving with a preliminary-round score of 160.00.

PRELIMINARY WINNERS

Catholic school Sacred Heart Academy took the No. 1 seed in the 200-yard medley relay with an Automatic All-American time of 1:43.68 and also took the No. 1 seed in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:30.55.

Chloe Stepanek of Section XI Northport-Commack set a New York state public school and Federation record with an Automatic All-American time of 1:47.11 in the 200-yard freestyle. Stepanek also earned the top seed in the 100-yard freestyle with an Automatic All-American time of 49.48.

Jessica Pryne of Section IX Cornwall took the top spot in the 200-yard individual medley with an All-American Consideration time of 2:03.56.

Catherine Stanford of Section VIII Oceanside earned the top seed in the 50-yard freestyle with an Automatic All-American time of 23.01 seconds.

Tess Howley of Sacred Heart Academy earned the No. 1 seed in today’s 100-yard butterfly semifinals with a time of 53.51 seconds while Megan Deuel of Section V Pittsford earned the No. 2 seed in 54.38 seconds. Both times were worthy of Automatic All-American recognition.

Cavan Gormsen of Sacred Heart Academy took the No. 1 seed in the 500-yard freestyle (4:49.71) while Alexa Reyna of Section I White Plains will be the No. 2 seed (4:51.11) and Mary McKenna of Catholic school St. Anthony’s will be the No. 3 seed (4:51.33). All three girls’ times were worthy of Automatic All-American honors.

Sleepy/Hastings/Edgemont earned the No. 1 seed in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:36.79.

Sabrina Johnston of Section I Horace Greeley is the top seed in the 100-yard backstroke after swimming a 55.47 on Friday.

Denise Phelan of Section XI Northport-Commack is the top seed in the 100-yard breaststroke after a time of 1:02.74.

SECTION VI RESULTS

Orchard Park’s 200-yard medley relay team finished fifth in the preliminaries with a time of 1:47.99 while East Aurora was 24th in 1:51.55. The Quakers 200-yard freestyle relay team is also seeded fifth in today’s finals after a time of 1:38.27 on Friday.

Olean/Portville/Franklinville’s Alexis Trietley will be seeded sixth in today’s 100-yard freestyle finals after she swam a 51.73 on Friday. Orchard Park’s Sarah Conley will be seeded 28th after her time of 53.48. Niagara Wheatfield’s Danielle Carlson finished 39th in 54.25, Orchard Park’s Katherine Jones finished 49th in 54.64 and her Quakers teammate Emily Blake took 58th in 55.00.

Hamburg’s Jessica Humby is seeded seventh in today’s 100-yard breaststroke final after a time of 1:05.07 on Friday. Orchard Park’s Mackenzie Fischer is seeded 21st (1:07.39) while Eden’s Elle Noecker finished 31st (1:08.48), Iroquois’ Melanie White took 38th (1:09.13), Orchard Park’s Julie Filipski finished 41st (1:09.51) and the Quakers’ Natalie Kassirer took 43rd (1:09.76).

East Aurora’s Mary Brinker is seventh in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.78 while Jones is 22nd in 24.64. Fischer finished 38th in 25.07.

Trietley will also be the No. 10 seed in today’s 200-yard freestyle finals after a time of 1:52.62 on Friday. Carlson is 27th in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:56.76 and Conley finished 33rd in 1:57.25.

Orchard Park’s 400-yard freestyle relay is seeded 12th for today’s finals after a time of 3:37.75 on Friday. Frontier finished 31st (3:43.00) and Starpoint took 33rd (3:43.96).

Starpoint’s Allie Bashor is seeded 20th in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:09.38 while Filipski finished 48th in 2:16.64. Blake was disqualified.

Bashor is seeded 13th in the 100-yard butterfly (57.59) while Frontier’s Kya Pawli is 20th (58.12) and Orchard Park’s Mia Bogulski is 25th (58.49). Noecker finished 32nd (58.99), Orchard Park’s Paige Salmon was 51st (59.78), Orchard Park’s Isabella Mikulec was tied for 73rd (1:00.78) and Kenmore East/West’s Bailey Wiegand was 82nd (1:01.61).

Frontier will be seeded 18th in today’s 200-yard freestyle relay finals after a time of 1:40.39 on Friday. East Aurora finished 35th (1:41.70).

Pawli took 31st in the 500-yard freestyle (5:11.16).

Mikulec finished 33rd in the 100-yard backstroke (59.48), Williamsville North’s Olivia Klein was 37th (59.90), Lewiston-Porter’s Maya Marcyan was 42nd (1:00.50) and Clarence’s Ashley Felber was 48th (1:00.76).
