JCC Men’s Soccer Season Comes To An End

BATAVIA — Playing against the seventh-ranked team in the country in Genesee County Community College, the Jamestown CC men’s soccer team left it all on the field during Thursday’s NJCAA Division III Region 3 District B semifinal.

In the end, however, that effort fell just a little bit short, as the Panthers picked up a 3-0 win after getting a fortunate start to the day when Ollie Ardle converted on a penalty kick at 3:59 of the first half.

“They got kind of an unfortunate penalty kick that gave them the early lead and they followed that up with a nice play down the middle,” said Jayhawks coach Pat Anderson.

Six minutes after Ardle’s finish past goaltender Jakob Moore, the leading NJCAA scorer in the country Hiago Barros de Souza made it 2-0 on a nice feed by Ed Port.

Jamestown CC fought back with some nice chances entering the second half, but James Lighton put Genesee CC up 3-0 at 68:18 when he rifled home a shot from 30 yards out that could not be reached by Moore.

“By the end of the half, we were playing pretty quality soccer. We actually took it to them in the second half. They got a beautiful shot from about 30-yards out and Jakob had no chance. For a large portion of that game we played really well,” said Anderson.

The Jayhawks expect to return good numbers next season after a 12-6-3 campaign, leaving Anderson optimistic about the future.

“This has been a good group,” he said. “I’m not sure how many years I have left in this, but this group in terms of their chemistry and work ethic has been the best that I have seen. It is nice to know that we pretty much maxed out their potential.”

Moore put on another fine performance, stopping 12 shots.
