Jamestown’s Rheese Maggio Places Second In Section VI Class A Diving

Rheese Maggio had a big night for Jamestown at the Section VI Class A Championships at City Honors School on Thursday evening.

Maggio, a freshman, took home second place overall with 344.55 points and will now travel to Maryvale High School next Thursday for the Section VI Championships.

Meanwhile, in Class B/C action in Olean, Lindsey Weissman took home a Class B/C diving title, finishing with 430.65 points for West Seneca East. Brook Eichel of Grand Island was just a few points back at 427.95, while Elizabeth Pucci-Schaefer of Fredonia finished in fourth place with 412.80.

Makenna O’Connell of Olean finished fifth (392.65), Alexandra Pucci-Schaefer of Fredonia eighth (374.55), Hope Marshall of Panama/Maple Grove ninth (367.05), Hannah Vanderhoef of Olean 10th (363.25), Ashlynn Swan of Southwestern 11th (343.95), Elayna Pitts of Frewsburg 15th (323.9), Elise Coffin of Southwestern 16th (310.35), Sophie Kreinheder of Southwestern 17th (307.95) and Mackenzie Cross of Southwestern 18th (292.80).

WOOD LEADS CLASS C PRELIMS

BUFFALO — The Section VI Class C swimming and diving championship preliminaries were held Wednesday night at the Burt Flickinger Athletic Center.

Grace Wood of Southwestern will enter today’s finals with four first-place seeds, including the 100-yard freestyle (55.05) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.58).

Wood is also a member of the top-ranked 200-yard medley relay team along with Roisin Hagel, Teagan Shedd and Natalie Fosberg that clocked a 1:56.89 as well as the leading 400-yard freestyle relay team with Fosberg, Hagel and Isabella Grijalva which finished in 3:52.16.

Fosberg is the top seed in the 50-yard freestyle in 25.90 while Madison Kramer of Frewsburg leads the way in the 100-yard backstroke (59.31).

In the 200-yard individual medley Izzy Bailey of Panama sets the pace with a 2:19.70.

CLASS A PRELIMS

AMHERST– In Class A Championship action at Sweet Home High School, Jamestown Red Raiders captain Alyssa Shimmel posted a season-best time in the 100-yard backstroke. Sophia Simons qualified for the finals of the 500-yard freestyle and also claimed a season-best time in the 200-yard freestyle.

Lindsey Spitz is a finalist in the 100-yard breaststroke, while Natalie Reinhardt and Brianna Winters will join Simons and Spitz in the finals today in the 200-yard medley and the 400-yard freestyle relays.
