Fosberg, Kramer Earn Ribbons At State Swimming

ITHACA — A pair of local swimmers came home with ribbons as the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Swimming & Diving Championships wrapped up Saturday at Ithaca College.

Southwestern junior Natalie Fosberg finished 16th overall and 13th among public school swimmers in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.39 seconds.

Frewsburg/Falconer junior Madison Kramer finished 24th overall and 19th among public school swimmers in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 58.77 seconds.

Finishers in positions 11-20 of each event receive ribbons while the top 10 are awarded medals.

Fredonia/Silver Creek/Forestville sophomore Victoria Spacciapolli finished 27th overall and 26th among public school swimmers in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.48.

Olean/Portville/Franklinville sophomore Alexis Trietley finished fifth overall and third among public school swimmers in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.44 seconds. Trietley was also ninth overall and sixth among public school swimmers in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:52.76.

Fast times were recorded all over the pool Saturday.

Sacred Heart Academy set a Federation record with an Automatic All-American time of 1:42.21 to win the 200-yard medley relay.

Northport-Commack senior Chloe Stepanek was a double winner on the day. First, she set a state record in the 200-yard freestyle with an Automatic All-American time of 1:46.15 before just missing another state record with an Automatic All-American winning time of 48.76 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle.

Pittsford senior Megan Deuel was also a double winner. She won the 100-yard butterfly in a state-record time of 52.95 seconds before just missing a state record while winning the 100-yard backstroke in an Automatic All-American time of 53.82 seconds.

Oceanside senior Catherine Stanford won the 50-yard freestyle in an Automatic All-American time of 22.84 seconds.

Sacred Heart Academy freshman Cavan Gormsen was one of four swimmers to reach Automatic All-American times in the 500-yard freestyle. Gormsen won in a state-record time of 4:46.75 while White Plains eighth-grader Alexa Reyna (4:47.80), Herricks junior Sophia Karras (4:48.16) and Bronxville-Tuckahoe senior Emily Gjertsen (4:50.88) also hit the standard.

Northport-Commack sophomore Denise Phelan claimed the 100-yard breaststroke in an Automatic All-American time of 1:02.33.

Sacred Heart Academy also won the 400-yard freestyle relay in an Automatic All-American time of 3:26.46.

Port Jefferson senior Kyra Sommerstad won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:02.17.

Sleepy-Hastings-Edgemont won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:35.82.
