Northwest Arena recently hosted Week 6 of the Backyard Curling Leagues sponsored by Dot’s Gift Boutique.

5:30 WEDNESDAY LEAGUE

The Stone Cold Curlers went 2-0 this week for the first time this season with wins over first-place The Brush Offs, 29-28, and All Curled Up, 30-29, receiving outstanding play from Matt Mancuso and Alex Miller.

Also going 2-0 were Golfers on Ice as they defeated Pepsi Zero’s, 41-35, and Arthur R. Gren, 35-31, as they were led by Bob Drake and Charlie Beach.

Pepsi Zero’s and Arthur R. Gren both bounced back with victories over Trojan Curlers, 50-37, and, 46-36, being led by Kellie Warner and Jon Gren Jr., respectively.

Arguably the best comeback and shot of the year came in All Curled Up’s incredible win on Marty Richau’s final stone of the game, where he knocked out all 12 of Close Enough’s points and left his stone in the house for the deciding 34-31 win.

In other action, The Brush Offs remained in the top spot, by going 1-1 on the week as they defeated Close Enough, 37-28, with Steve Shelters leading the way.

6:30 WEDNESDAY LEAGUE

Dot’s Gift Boutique and Conewango Curlers both went 2-0 this week to create four-way tie for first place in the league.

Dot’s defeated The Hackers, 34-32, and Swedish Meatballs, 37-31, with outstanding play from Rex McCray.

The Conewango Curlers defeated both Neil’s Propane, 46-30, and TRCurlers, 36-24, as they were led by Kylie Munch and Colin Beck.

Neil’s Propane came back to beat Games of Stone, 30-22, with Ryan Short being the outstanding curler.

The Hackers got their second win of the season as they defeated Slippery Rock, 33-28, with outstanding play from Matt Hanley.

Game of Stones knocked off TRCurlers, 46-40, with strong play from Chris and Kevin Rogers.

Slippery Rock recorded a win over Swedish Meatballs, 40-32, as they were led by team captain Rob White.

5:45 MONDAY LEAGUE

Legion of Brooms took two close wins over Frozen Assets, 36-31, and Cliff and the Baby Broomers, 52-42, behind strong play from Todd Frangione.

The Scuba Crew also won two games this week by defeating Fruit of the Brooms, 43-41, and Shoeless Joe’s Pub, 41-40, as they were led by Jack Twinam and Brian Ceci.

Shoeless Joe’s Pub bounced back with a 42-41 win over Sweeping with Your With Wife with their top curlers being Chad Waddington and Cherish Pope.

Teams going 1-1 on the night were Sweeping with Your Wife with Joe Poston leading the way; The Cremators led by Chad Johnson; and Frozen Assets led by Bob Bruce.

Leading the way for winless Fruit of the Brooms and Cliff and the Baby Broomers were Ed Cramer and Doug Grubb, respectively.

6:45 MONDAY LEAGUE

Short & Curly was the only team to capture two wins this week by defeating the Ice Holers, 27-20, and Mary’s Smooth Red Curlers, 32-29, having strong play from Jeff Sealy and Jamie Smith.

Going 1-1 was Merrill Lynch Cirls being led by Dawn Stuart and Darla Jo Nelson; Game of Stones with strong play from Carrie and Corinne Edwards; Making Curling Great led by Bruce Janowsky; Jamestown Hammers behind their top curler Darr Starrs; Snow Ballers being led by Nikki Hinderleider; and Mary’s Smooth Red Curlers led by David Lobb and Pat Langworthy.
