Willemsen Gives JCC A Boost In Road Win

SANBORN — The Jamestown Community College men’s soccer team suffered a defensive error that brought Wednesday’s NJCAA Division III Region 3 game against Niagara County CC to a tie, but the Jayhawks were able to recover late on their way to a victory.

After suffering an own goal early in the second half to make it a 1-1 game, Jamestown CC fired home three unanswered goals to pick up a 4-1 win and improve to 10-4-3 on the year in their final Region 3 regular-season game of the season.

Luuk Willemsen opened up the scoring for the Jayhawks, and then took the lead for the visitors on another nice play with 24 minutes remaining in the second half.

“He is doing a really great job, getting the ball on his foot and making good decisions with it. Today he played exceptionally well in the middle,” Jamestown CC coach Pat Anderson said of Willemsen.

Michael Broughton assisted on both of Willemsen’s goals, while Axel Richardson and Kean Thomas picked up the final two goals. Tyler West fed Richardson with seven minutes to play in the game while Thomas was the recipient of a pass by Nick Brown with time winding down.

Jakob Moore recorded four saves in the win.

The Jayhawks will now look to stay sharp with road matches against Gannon University and the Roberts Wesleyan jayvees next week as they await an NJCAA Region 3 playoff opponent.

“I wanted to put in some games on the schedule against good opponents and keep us busy,” said Anderson.
