Tolbert’s Tally Sends T’Birds Past Maple Grove

MAYVILLE — Chautauqua Lake (7-8, 5-7) topped Maple Grove (4-9-2, 4-6-1), 2-1, with Lahna Tolbert scoring the deciding goal at 31 minutes of the second half in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Central Division girls soccer Tuesday night.

Calla Zarpentine scored the first goal of the night for the Thunderbirds from Kylie Keefe and assisted on the game winner while Taylor Bower scored for Maple Grove.

Kasie Craig made five saves for the Red Dragons and Hailey Roush five saves for Chautauqua Lake.

WESTFIELD TRIMS BEARS

WESTFIELD — The Westfield/Brocton Lady Wolverines took care of business with a 1-0 win over Frewsburg in a CCAA Central girls soccer game at the NorthLake Soccer Complex.

After a scoreless first half, the Lady Wolverines broke through with a goal by Sheala Barresi off a beautiful feed by division-leading scorer Katie Bodenmiller. The goal came in the 18th minute of the second half.

“Katie Bodenmiller played her head off today,” said Westfield/Brocton coach Neil Huber.

The defense kept Frewsburg scoreless, forcing all of the shots from distance. All-Star goalkeeper Angel Busch made 14 saves in the victory.

“Frewsburg is very well-coached,” said Huber. “Our players really stepped up and played great defense. Laura Johnston and Katie Bodenmiller played so well for us. … It was just a great game all around.”

After suffering their first defeat last Thursday, Westfield/Brocton responded with a 4-0 win over Pine Valley on Friday to keep the hopes of the top seed in Class C within reach. After Tuesday’s win, the Lady Wolverines can clinch the top seed with a win on Thursday at home against Maple Grove.

FALCONER TRIMS DUNKIRK

DUNKIRK — Izzy Penhollow picked up a hat trick to lead Falconer (7-5-3) to a 4-1 win over Dunkirk (0-16) in CCAA West play.

Grace Penhollow also grabbed a goal while Kayla Lynn earned an assist in the win.

TROJANS UPEND RAIDERS

Southwestern (10-3-2) was a 5-2 winner over Jamestown (2-13) in nonleague play.

Emily Kimball scored from Lotte Kranzo, Brynne Conley from Cora Casselman, Allison Lundmark from Ellie Lawton, Kimball from Lundmark, and Sydney Segrue from Lundmark to lead the Southwestern offense.

For Jamestown Jaclyn Bush scored both goals.

Hanna Johnson made four saves for Southwestern while Haleigh Rhodes made 14 saves in the loss.

EAGLES PREVAIL

FRANKLINVILLE — Ellicottville (9-3) was a 1-0 winner over Franklinville (3-11-2) in CCAA East action.

Mandy Hurlburt scored the lone goal from Camryn Earley, and Brooke Eddy made five saves in the win.

CLARK TALLIES WINNER

RANDOLPH — Tyra Clark scored the overtime winner for Randolph (4-10-1) in a 1-0 defeat of Cattaraugus-Little Valley (4-12).

Miranda Waterman made six saves in the win and Izzy Deliman turned away 29 shots for the Timberwolves.

PORTVILLE DOWNS SALAMANCA

SALAMANCA — Portville (10-3-2) was a 4-2 winner over Salamanca (9-7) with Karly Welty grabbing a pair of goals and an assist.

Ryleigh John had a pair of goals for Salamanca with assists coming from Rachel Chamberlain and Mariah Downey, while Makenzie Oakes made eight saves for the Warriors.

SILVER CREEK WINS

SOUTH DAYTON — Silver Creek (8-7) was a 3-1 winner over Pine Valley (0-14-1) in CCAA Central play as Chloe Barrett, Rachael Beadle and Katie Castiglia all found the back of the net.

Kylie Procknal had an assist, while Tesa Karcz made one save and Alina Beadle made three in the win.
