Wolfpack Shut Out Geneseo, 28-0

GENESEO — Clymer/Sherman/Panama didn’t open its season in style, but the defending Class D state champions got the job done with a 28-0 nonleague victory over Geneseo on Friday night.

Connor Cooper rushed 16 times for 126 yards and two touchdowns; Gerrit Hinsdale passed for 147 yards and two scores — both to Braden Cook — and the Wolfpack’s defense was lights-out, limiting the hosts to 55 total yet yards.

“I think we showed our inexperience tonight, which wasn’t entirely unexpected,” CSP coach Ty Harper said. “Anytime you graduate that many seniors (20 from last year’s squad) and starting so many (new) kids on both sides of the ball, there’s bound to be mistakes in their first varsity game. We shot ourselves in the foot quite a bit.”

Despite 16 penalties, the Wolfpack played stout defense, however, led by Owen Gratto, who made 10 tackles and Cameron Barmore, who had six tackles, including three for loss, registered a pair of sacks and forced a fumble in his first career start at defensive end.

“The defense as a whole was incredible,” Harper said.

Barmore finished with two receptions on offense, good for 60 yards, despite seeing triple coverage at times. Zavon Overton and Cook each caught three passes. Hinsdale finished the evening completing 11 of 22 passes.

The Wolfpack return to action a week from today when they travel to Silver Creek/Forestville.
