SKF Aeroengine, Matco Tools Top YMCA Battle Of The Businesses
After Friday’s evenings Scrabble tournament, basketball skills competition and Texas Hold’em Poker tournament at the Lakewood YMCA, SKF Aeroengine (Large Division) and Matco Tools (Small Division) lead the way in the YMCA’s 32nd annual Battle of the Businesses.
SKF’s point count is 1,118 while Matco Tools tallied 1,178 points going into the last day of events.
SKF’s Eric Mikoleit and Don Anthony had the highest score in the final round of the Scrabble event for the Large Division, followed closely by Truck-Lite. Jamestown BPU finished in third place. John Barber supervised the event.
In the Small Division, Jamestown Bar Association/City Court’s Pete Johnson and Tom Rankin were the word-placing champions. Second place went to Jamestown Up Close and while Greater Chautauqua Federal Credit Union/Inscape scored in third place.
In the basketball skills competition under the direction of David Reinhardt, Large Division Cummins scored the highest number of points to capture the win against second-place finisher Falconer Central Schools. UPMC Chautauqua placed third.
For the Small Division basketball event, the winning team was GA Family Services while Matco Tools seized second place and Children’s Educational Services/Rehabilitation Specialists scored the third-place points.
YMCA member and volunteer Henry Mole supervised the new Texas Hold’em Poker tournament. In the Large Division, The Resource Center’s Jason Carnahan and Charlie Klenke ran the table to collect the 100 event points followed by Cummins and UPMC Chautauqua.
GCFCU/Inscape took the win in the Small Division with card shark Mike Vaillancovet. Matco Tools and JBA/City Court tabled second and third place, respectively.
The last Battle events will be the 2-mile run/walk today at the Lakewood Beach at 9 a.m., fishing tournament from 7 a.m. to noon on Chautauqua Lake, scavenger hunt starting at noon at the former Quality Markets parking lot on Fluvanna Avenue and the five competitions at Midway State Park beginning at noon — bean bag toss, women’s miniature golf, skee-ball and the talent show and pie baking contest bonus events.
Participants are asked to refer to the Battle schedule or their team captain for specific event times at Midway.
