The Jamestown Jets competitive swim program will begin its 88th season Sept. 16.

Swimmers range from first time on a swim team to state and national qualifiers. The Jets invite all swimmers 5-18 years of age who are able to swim a length of the pool front crawl to try the Jets for two weeks with no commitment. During the trial period, swimmers are invited participate as often as possible and will be evaluated to determine their practice groups. The trial period will start Sept. 16 and run Monday through Thursday at the YMCA at the following times: age 8 and under: 4:30-5:30 p.m.; age9-11: 5:30-6:30 p.m.; 12 and older: 6:30 p.m.

The team will have an informational parent meeting at the YMCA on Thursday, Sept. 26 from 6-7:30 p.m.

Starting Monday, Sept. 30, the team will practice Monday through Friday based on skill level. All swimmers will be expected to participate in a minimum of two practices per week.

The Jets compete in the Western Pa. YMCA Swim League and have approximately seven league meets per season, plus championships. All league meet and postseason meet fees are included in the registration fee. Meets are held from late October through mid-March at home and away locations. Emphasis will be on stroke technique, conditioning and endurance. Other fun activities are scheduled throughout the season. Scholarships and multiple swimmer discounts are available.
