Jamestown Community College’s women’s volleyball team is now 5-4 on the year after picking up a 25-16, 25-21, 25-18 Western New York Athletic Conference win over Mercyhurst North East (3-6) on Thursday at the Physical Education Complex.

The Jayhawks had Karleigh Haines finish with two aces, 11 kills, three digs and five blocks; Jenna Caskey one ace, 10 kills, eight digs and one block; Maddy Russo 29 assists, two kills and eight digs; Megan Gominiak four kills, two digs and six blocks; Cameryn Hawkins two aces, one kill and 16 digs; while Emma Wirsen added an ace and 18 digs.

“Our offense was good and our defense was phenomenal,” Jamestown CC coach Ashley Lund said. “Between Cameryn and Emma, they weren’t letting any balls hit the floor.”

The Jayhawks suffered some hitting errors in the second frame, but were able to use their defense to move past that stretch.

Jamestown CC will travel to Niagara County CC for POD play Saturday, meeting Herkimer College first at 11 a.m.
