NIAGARA FALLS — The Jamestown YMCA Boxing Club walked away with a pair of victories from Casal’s Boxing Club on Saturday night.

Tony “El Bravo” Torres Jr. bested defending New York State Golden Gloves Open heavyweight champion Nolan Smith via a three-round unanimous decision.

“It was super,” said YMCA boxing coach Chip Swanson. “He was a lot bigger than Tony. Tony was at 208 and Smith was 250 and change. He came hard and Tony bloodied his nose early. Once he got his range, he took over in the second and third rounds.”

Also leaving Niagara Falls with a win was 14-year-old Josh Brunacini, who improved his amateur record to 3-1 with a unanimous decision win.

On Aug. 24, the club will host the inaugural Jamestown Area Boxing Championships, which will be held at the Lakewood YMCA with doors opening at 1 p.m. and fights starting at 2.

Several members of the YMCA Boxing Club are scheduled for bouts against fighters hailing from Niagara Falls, Silver Creek, Erie, Pennsylvania, Ashtabula, Ohio, Rochester and Buffalo.

Fans can purchase tickets at either YMCA for $10 presale or $12 at the door, as well as ringside tickets for $20.
