DISTRICT 38 LITTLE LEAGUE

11-12 NON-SANCTIONED TOURNAMENT

LAKEWOOD — Robbie Bellardo threw a complete-game, three-hitter with six strikeouts as Southwestern beat Brocton-Portland 7-1 to advance to tonight’s 6 p.m. final in Fredonia.

Bellardo was helped out by strong defensive play from Tate Catanese and Seth Vaughn up the middle while catcher Kyler Wojtowicz threw out two of three would-be base stealers.

Southwestern’s offense was held under 10 runs for the first time in the tournament by Brocton’s Anthony Gatto.

Brody Larson went 3 for 3 with a double and a home run while Vaughn was 3 for 3 with a triple and a home run.

Nathan Laurito singled and scored Brocton’s lone run.

MEN’S SENIOR BASEBALL

Joe Polichetti hit a grand slam and a double, totaling six RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Pro-Bat Yankees past the Stuart Tool & Die Athletics 17-4.

Justyn Vara had two hits and two runs scored while Brent Carmello and Joe Pantaro each scored three runs for the Yankees. Vara picked up the win on the mound, combining with Allan Carmello for three strikeouts.

For the Athletics, Brian Gunnell and Brandon Shelters both had two hits and two RBIs while Dan Williamson, Curt Jones, Randy Stuart and Bob Bankoski all had hits.

Shane Nusom, Nick Luther and Shelters shared mound duty, allowing nine hits and walking eight batters.
