The Southern Tier Regulators scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to salvage a doubleheader split with Full Circuit Power, winning Game 2, 5-4, after losing Game 1, 5-3, on Wednesday at Diethrick Park.
Southern Tier entered the seventh inning trailing, 4-1, but Adam Goot and Kyler Majka opened the frame with back-to-back singles. Bryce Jackson then walked to load the bases before Evan Pirtz plated two runs with an infield single that led to a throwing error.
Jacob Payne then walked to load the bases once again and Jackson scored on a passed ball before Nick Crandall hit a 3-2 pitch into right field to plate Pirtz with the winning run.
Full Circuit scored four times in the second inning, using three hits, two walks and a hit by pitch to do its damage. The biggest hit was an RBI double by James Fino.
The Regulators answered with a run in the fourth inning as Aidan Morrison reached on a fielder’s choice and Rockne Seidel followed with an RBI double.
Seidel and Pirtz each finished with two hits in the game. Trey Swartz threw a complete-game five-hitter with five strikeouts on the mound.
In Game 1, Southern Tier managed just three hits and committed four errors in the 5-3 loss.
Anthony Gullo, Nate Engdahl and Lucas Porpiglia each singled for the Regulators.
Full Circuit took a 4-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning before Aaron Hair and Jackson each had RBI ground outs in the bottom half of the frame.
The Power took a 5-2 lead in the top of the seventh inning before Majka grounded into a fielder’s choice in the bottom half of the frame to make it 5-3. The Regulators twice had the potential tying run at the plate, but a pop out and a strikeout ended the game.
Majka threw five innings, allowing four runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out four. Goot threw the final two innings, allowing a run on two hits and two walks while striking out three.
Southern Tier returns to action this weekend with a tournament in Syracuse.
