Maple Grove Wraps Up League Title

FORESTVILLE — Maple Grove rebounded from its first league loss Friday and wrapped up the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 West championship with a 10-1 win over Forestville on Saturday afternoon.

The game was tied 1-1 until the fifth inning when the Red Dragons (15-3, 11-1) scored three runs to take control. Sammy Davis had an RBI single and Elise Swanson had an RBI triple in the frame.

Maple Grove added four runs in the sixth inning on Sarah Berg’s RBI single, Swanson’s two-run single and Meghann Nolan’s RBI single. Another two runs in the seventh put the game away as Erin Mansfield doubled, Clare Crossley hit an RBI ground out and Davis hit an RBI single.

Lynne Nordin struck out 10 in a four-hitter in the circle for Maple Grove. Davis had three hits and two RBIs; Berg had two hits, including a double; and Swanson had two hits, including the triple, and three RBIs.

Kaitlyn Alguire struck out 12 in the circle for the Hornets (8-5, 8-4). Clare Kingsfield had two hits and Alguire drove in Forestville’s lone run.

PANAMA WINS FINALE

PANAMA — Ashlyn Harvey threw a complete-game two-hitter, striking out nine as Panama finished its Division 2 West season with a 13-2 win over Brocton.

Harvey and Abi Lisciandro each had three singles to lead the Panthers (10-2, 10-2) offense while Marra Hovey and Maci Johnson each had two hits, including a double. Harvey allowed one walk in the circle.

Megan Gloss struck out six and walked one in the circle for Brocton (8-7, 7-4). Juli Smith had two hits for the Bulldogs.
