Johnson Powers Trojans To Easy Prequarterfinal Win

LAKEWOOD — Nate Johnson went 4 for 5 with two doubles and eight RBIs to lead No. 6 Southwestern to a 20-0 Section VI Class B2 prequarterfinal baseball victory over No. 11 WNY Maritime on Thursday at Packard Field.

Aidan Kennedy was perfect through four innings on the mound for the Trojans, needing just 39 pitches to put down 12 Commodores — six via strikeouts.

Luke Tota threw the final inning for Southwestern, allowing a hit on his first pitch before retiring the side.

Aidan Melquist was 3 for 3 with a double and three RBIs; Evan Bishop was 2 for 2 with two RBIs; and Jed Hirliman was 3 for 3 with a double and three RBIs for the Trojans, who scored four runs in the first inning, four more in the second, 10 in the third and two in the fourth.

Southwestern will take on No. 3 Allegany-Limestone at 5 p.m. today at Stayer Park.
