Season Ends For Gerace, Cornell In Loss To Minnesota

HAMDEN, Conn. — Jamestown native Pippy Gerace and the Cornell women’s hockey team had their season come to an end on Friday afternoon with a 2-0 loss to University of Minnesota in NCAA Division I semifinal play.

The Golden Gophers punched their ticket to a 10th national championship game since 2000 on the back of goals by Nicole Schammel and Sarah Potomak.

Schammel broke open a deadlock at 12:09 of the second period, converting on feeds from Emily Oden and Olivia Knowles on the power play. Potomak doubled that lead in the final minute, as the Big Red pulled goaltender Marlene Boissonnault in an effort to tie the game.

Cornell earned a power play late in regulation as Taylor Wente was sent to the box, but the Big Red was unable to convert on that chance.

Boissonnault made 25 saves in the loss while Alex Gulstene stopped 15 pucks to help the Gophers advance. They will meet the winner of two-time defending champion Clarkson and No. 1 seed Wisconsin in the finals.

Cornell ends the season at 23-6-6 while Minnesota is now 31-5-1.

In her senior season, Gerace collected nine goals and six assists.
