Mckenna Maycock, a 2014 Randolph graduate, powered the attack with a career high 24 points on 6-of-11 shooting from beyond the arc and 9 of 15 from the floor.

The Bonnies finished with gaudy shooting totals across the board — the team shot at a 57 percent clip from the floor (33 for 58) including 48 percent from distance.

“Mckenna had been struggling and we figured she was due for a game like this,” St. Bonaventure head coach Jesse Fleming said. “We had the focus to bring the energy in the second half and we were able to do that, it was a big difference today. We played really hard and it showed.”

Along with Maycock, Dajah Logan posted 11 points as did Danielle Migliore. Freshmen Asianae Johnson and Deja Francis each had 9 points — Johnson also had seven rebounds and five assists while Francis handed out five assists as well.

St. Bonaventure led early, grabbing a seven-point edge during the opening minutes and then equaled that largest lead at 26-19 three minutes into the second period.

Migliore was one of the players responsible for the early lead as she connected on two quick 3-pointers and posted eight points during the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Logan heated up and was joined by Bree Paulson as a tag team from beyond the arc. Logan sank five of her first six attempts and Paulson added a pair of treys to push the Bona lead back to 39-32 at the break.

The Bonnies opened the third quarter scorching from the floor.

Bona was good on six of its first eight attempts including three more shots from long distance over the first four and a half minutes to rush ahead, 55-40.

In all, the Bonnies tallied 23 points during the third quarter, their largest output in a period since a 32-point fourth-quarter explosion at George Mason nearly three weeks ago.

Before the Bonnies blitz was done, their lead stood at 21 early in the fourth quarter. Rhode Island closed within 14 with four minutes to play, but Maycock immediately answered with another 3 to put the Brown and White back in control.

The Bonnies also outscored the Rams in the paint, 32-28, despite Rhode Island’s size advantage.

“We really did a good job defending (6-foot-5 Nicole) Jorgensen and at the end of the day we said we were going to keep them out of the paint,” Fleming said. “I’m really pleased with the effort today.”

St. Bonaventure will look to keep its momentum going when it hosts George Mason this Sunday at the Reilly Center. Tip-off Sunday afternoon is slated for 1 p.m.
