The victory sends the Red Raiders (1-0) into the championship game at 4:15 p.m. today against Olean, an 86-63 winner over Tapestry in the other first-round game last night.

“We played better in the second half,” Jamestown coach Ben Drake said. “In the first half, we didn’t play well defensively, we weren’t communicating well and we gave (Southwestern) open shots. … We executed much better in the second half. Southwestern played a pretty effective zone, packed it in on us, and made it difficult. It was a battle right up to the end.”

The Trojans led, 26-25, at intermission and the game stayed close throughout the second half.

Crofoot finished with 12 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals to lead Jamestown. Shaheem Freeney had 12 points and 12 rebounds; Elijah Rojas added 12 points and four steals; and Grant Moore collected nine rebounds and three assists.

Mayson Mathews led Southwestern (0-1) with 21 points, including 11 in the fourth quarter. Five of his buckets were from beyond the arc.

Jamestown won its junior varsity game, downing Southwestern, 84-28.

Calvin Ricker led the way with 17 points and Jaylen Butera chipped in 11 for the Red Raiders.
