Maycock’s 21 Not Enough For Bona

ST. BONAVENTURE – Senior Mckenna Maycock poured in a game-high 21 points and redshirt junior Dajah Logan delivered a career-best 18 points, but it would not be enough to overcome visiting Kent State as St. Bonaventure dropped Monday’s home nonconference finale, 76-64, at the Reilly Center.

Maycock continued her brilliant play since returning from injury two weeks ago, connecting on 4-of-7 attempts from beyond the arc while playing a team-high 35 minutes. Logan, meanwhile, added a season-high seven rebounds as well.

The visiting Golden Flashes (5-4) spoiled the Bonnies’ last home game of 2018, however, thanks in large part to a varied scoring attack that found four players in double figures while Kent State shot 52 percent from the field (28 for 54).

Kent State controlled the first half, going to halftime with a 42-31 lead after shooting 59 percent from the floor during the first 20 minutes.

St. Bonaventure (3-8) opened the second half strong, though, immediately closing to within five and kept that margin for the majority of the third quarter.

The Golden Flashes enjoyed a late third-quarter surge to take a nine-point lead into the final period, but a trey on the opening possession of the fourth from Bree Paulson cut the deficit to 57-51.

Back-to-back buckets from Kent State pushed the lead back to 10, and though the Bonnies got back within 63-57 following free throws from Maycock with 4:03 to play in the fourth, Bona could never get any closer.

Asiah Dingle paced the Golden Flashes with 17 points, handing out five assists as well. Ali Poole posted 13 ponts and Lindsey Thall finished with 12.

The Bonnies return to action Sunday afternoon at Buffalo with tipoff slated for 2:30 p.m.

NOTES: Maycock finished just two points off her career high of 23 set twice last season — vs. Penn State and vs. UMBC. Her effort represents her best offensive performance since suffering a knee injury late in last year’s non-conference slate. Her four 3-pointers were one away from a personal best of five set last year at George Mason. … Logan bested her previous career high of 15 points which she had done twice with two different programs — the first coming with the College of Charleston vs. UNC-Wilmington in 2016 and the second earlier this month for the Bonnies in a win over Siena. … Asianae Johnson handed out a team-high four assists. … The Bonnies entered the week ranked second among Atlantic 10 teams in 3s this season with 64 and sank nine more Monday night. … Bona shot at a 40 percent clip (22 of 55) from the floor and 39 percent from long range (9 of 23). … St. Bonaventure held a 31-30 edge in rebounding, led by Logan’s seven boards.
