Falconer/CV Claims Team Title At Sweet Home Duals

BUFFALO — The Falconer/Cassadaga Valley wrestling team finished off a strong opening weekend at the Sweet Home Duals on Saturday afternoon with a 51-29 win over Iroquois in its final match to take home the team title.

The Chiefs entered as the No. 1 ranked Division II team, according to Western New York Athletics while Falconer/Cassadaga Valley carried the No. 3 ranking.

“Things went really well. We were aggressive and I don’t think that we could have wrestled any better considering the practice time we have had this year,” said Falconer/Cassadaga coach Drew Wilcox.

Three different wrestlers finished the weekend with undefeated records: Joey Pillittieri at 126 pounds, Jimmy Kramer at 138 and Robbie Penhollow at 182.

“Joe Pillittieri at 126 has only been wrestling three years now, but he put a lot of time in this summer and it is showing through now,” said Wilcox.

Penhollow finished with a pin of Tyler Almeter while Kramer won via fall over Tyler Barry with Pillittieri earning a decision.

Going 7-1 in the past two days were Nick Saeger at 145, Mack Mikula at 160, Bryce Baglia at 152, Hudson Johnson at 195 and Collin Beichner at 285.

“Hudson Johnson is wrestling outstanding as well and is really fitting in nice at the heavier weight classes. He’s been down around 160 before and his style fits nicely at the upper weights. He’s going to have a great year. Johnson and Beichner are stepping into the varsity lineup and doing an outstanding job for us. Mack sure turned it on when the lights were on. He had a great tournament.”

Beichner ended with a pin of Nate Marion, Baglia’s final victory came via fall over Ryan Current while Mikula picked up a pin against Owen Gagner.

Going 6-2 for the Falconer/Cassadaga Valley were Austin Chase at 99 pounds, thanks to his final pin of Trevor Barry; Brayden Newman at 106; Jordan Dustin at 170 and Chase Johnson at 220.

Dustin passed the career 100-win mark this weekend.

Brody Little and Hunter Teboe finished at 5-3.
