Jake Sisson is taking his football talents global yet again early next year.

Five months after representing the United States in the FISU World University American Football Championship in Harbin, China, the former Jamestown High School and Edinboro University quarterback signed a contract on Monday to play for the Kragujevac Wild Boars, the three-time defending Serbian League champions and the top team in the country.

“Just the fact I can call myself professional is pretty cool,” Sisson said Tuesday afternoon. “The reason I’m doing it is I still think I can get (to the NFL). … I feel I still have game and can help some teams up there who are struggling with quarterback spot.

“I’m not the 6-foot-4, throw-the-ball-70-yards-down-the-field type guy. I’ve got to prove I can play. This gives me the opportunity to keep playing and playing in a professional league where guys are probably better than average. We’ll play good teams over there, I’ll get coaches to see me and just kind of continually grow my game and prove that I can be a true leader.”

Because of the Wild Boars’ success in recent years, they have been chosen to play in the seven-team Central European Football League, which includes teams from Turkey, Italy, Austria and Moscow. Sisson said he will fly to Serbia in mid-February. The season will run from early March through mid-July.

“I’m going to be in a great culture, in a great place, playing football,” Sisson said. “The way the contract is set up, they’re taking care of housing, a cellphone, insurance and transportation. I’ve got a restaurant in the hotel that’s going to feed me three meals a day. The salary — I don’t have to pay for anything — I can just pocket it.”

It’s been somewhat of a whirlwind existence in 2018 for Sisson, who played in the Dream Bowl in Roanoke, Virginia; participated in the Podyum Showcase in Miami and the National Scouting Combine in Indianapolis; and performed at the PSAC Pro Day hosted by California (Pennsylvania) University.

Sisson’s latest football odyssey comes on the heels of a record-setting career at Edinboro, where he ranks second in career touchdown passes (85), third in career passing yards (8,313), third in career total offense (8,672), third in career pass completions (702) and third in career pass attempts (1,243).

As a senior at Jamestown High School, Sisson completed 178 of 275 passes for a Western New York-record 3,184 yards, threw for 33 touchdowns, just four interceptions and rushed for 24 more TDs while running for a team-high 732 yards. The Post-Journal and Western New York Player of the Year in 2013, he was also the recipient of the Connolly Cup and was a first-team all-state selection.
