DENVER, Co. — Despite warm temperatures in the Mile High City on Friday afternoon, cold shooting plagued the St. Bonaventure women’s basketball team in a 70-53 loss to Ohio in the opening game of the Denver Thanksgiving Classic.

Freshman Deja Francis paced the Bonnies with 11 points while Dajah Logan added eight points and a career-high six assists. Danielle Migliore and Amanda Oliver finished with eight points apiece while reigning Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week Asianae Johnson registered seven points.

Despite the final score, the Bonnies defense did a solid job of limiting the Ohio offensive attack. Entering the day, the Bobcats ranked seventh in the nation in scoring at nearly 94 points per game and eighth in the country in field goal percentage at over 52 percent. Ohio had not failed to score fewer than 86 points in any of its first three games and scored 95 or more twice.

St. Bonaventure (2-3) started slowly, going 2 of 10 from the floor during the first quarter as Ohio captured a 24-11 advantage after the opening 10 minutes.

The offensive struggles for the Bonnies persisted, as just six shots fell through in the first half with Ohio taking a 42-22 cushion to intermission.

From there, Ohio (4-0) never let go of control as the Bonnies were not able to close the gap under 20 points until the fourth quarter. In the final quarter, the Brown and White finished strong by connecting on 9 of 16 field goal attempts.

Dominique Doseck led all scorers with 19 points for the Bobcats while Gabby Burris netted 18.

Amanda Oliver and Emily Calabrese led the Bonnies on the boards with seven rebounds apiece.

The Bonnies are back in action this afternoon to take on host Denver. That contest is slated for a 3:30 p.m. EST start time.

NOTES: Claudia Del Moral posted six points on 3 of 5 shooting. She also earned her first start with the Bonnies. … Logan’s previous career high of four assists came twice during her two seasons at the College of Charleston. … Ohio was shooting 52.7 percent from the floor over its first three games, but finished at 43 percent (25 for 57) on Friday. … Eight of nine Bonnies to see action posted points on the day. … Freshman Carrie Jornlin played a career-high 18 points off the bench, scoring three points with three rebounds. … The Thanksgiving Classic is a homecoming for Colorado native Bree Paulson who is a native of Broomfield, just outside the Denver area.
