Bernard, Smouse Among 14 Inductees To Trench Trophy HOF

Two area high school football players are among the 14 inductees to the Trench Trophy Hall of Fame.

Andrew Bernard of Randolph/Frewsburg and Jordan Smouse of Clymer/Sherman/Panama have been invited to a banquet on Dec. 5 to be officially inducted and for the announcement of the 2018 Lineman of the Year.

They will be joined by Jake Argo, Starpoint; Stephen Boyd Jr., Cardinal O’Hara; Greg Braswell, South Park; Tyler Doty, St. Joe’s; David Garca, Lancaster; Nick Hamme, West Seneca East; Jihad Loynes, Bennett; George Newcomb, West Seneca West; Joe Powers, Lewiston-Porter; Trevor Smith, Pioneer; Josh Walter, Williamsville North; and Jeremiah Wilkes, Grand Island.

The award honors football linemen whose contributions on the field are often overlooked when other awards are presented. Every week the organization’s volunteer scouts, who are made up of community members, coaches and former players, observe the games of more than 70 Western New York football programs. Eligible schools include local public, private and parochial varsity programs across Section VI and Monsignor Martin.

Since the award’s inception in 2003, the local winners include Jasen Carlson, Southwestern, 2009; and Joe Mistretta, Jamestown, 2014.
