Maple Grove Prevails In Non-League Showdown

Maple Grove improved its overall record to 13-1 after a 2-1 non-league win over Southwestern (8-7, 6-5).

The Red Dragons lead the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Central Division with a 10-1 mark.

Clare Crossley took care of the scoring for the winners with both goals as Ana Pavlock assisted the second. Kasie Craig came up big in net, stopping 15 shots in the win.

GATORS BLANK FALCONER

FALCONER — Allegany-Limestone moved to 11-2 on the year and 9-1 in West Division play with a 5-0 win over Falconer (6-8, 4-7).

Grace DeCapua had a pair of goals for the winners while Abbey Gardiner, Sofia Fortuna and Morgan King also collected goals.

Tierney Hemphill made four saves in the win and Grace Lundmark had 13 for the Golden Falcons.

WOLVERINES STUN FREWSBURG

FREWSBURG — The Westfield/Brocton Wolverines did something they had never done before in the 13 years of direction by coach Neil Huber — they beat Frewsburg.

Friday afternoon, the Wolverines came away with a 1-0 Central Division win in Frewsburg.

“They played their hearts out,” Huber said. “After a really tough week, they showed up today.”

After a scoreless first half, but the Wolverines (6-7-1, 5-5-1) wasted no time getting on the board in the second half. Juli Smith found the back of the net on an assist by McKayla Wolfe just two minutes into the second half.

From that point on, it was up to the Wolverines defense to earn the win — and they did just that.

Angel Busch tallied 19 saves in the contest to earn the shutout. Westfield/Brocton’s defense forced Frewsburg to shoot from distance all game, which is customary from the Wolverines from a strategic standpoint.

“The way my team plays defense, my girls keep everything in front of them,” Huber said. “We let them shoot from 20 yards and it worked for us. … My defense was spectacular today. My whole team was lights-out today.”

HEISTER LEADS OLEAN

OLEAN — Olean (10-2-1, 8-1-1) was a 10-0 winner over Chautauqua Lake (1-10, 1-9) as Calista Heister scored four times and added an assist.

Marina Miketish, Mary Ring and Micheyla Williams grabbed single goals with Miketish and Williams adding assists.

Reagan Stitt had three helpers while Kayla O’Connor made three saves in the win.

HILLBILLIES COAST TO WIN

FREDONIA — Fredonia (8-5-1, 7-3-1) rolled past Dunkirk (0-13, 0-10), 8-0, in West Division action on the back of four goals from Emily Timmerman.

Laural Erick grabbed a pair of goals in the win and three assists while Sofia Russo and Ella Gould had single tallies.

McCOY SCORES OT WINNER

RANDOLPH — Franklinville (6-7, 4-5) was able to sneak by Randolph (6-4-2, 4-4-1), 2-1, in East Division play as Abby McCoy was able to take advantage of a pass from Gabby Milligan for the overtime winner.

Abby Burrell made 21 saves in the win.

EAGLES EDGE SALAMANCA

SALAMANCA — Ellicottville (6-7, 6-3) claimed a 2-1 East Division win over Salamanca (4-10, 2-7) with goals coming from Mandy Hurlburt and Jocelyn Wyatt.

Hurlburt added an assist while Alexis Palmeri and Holly McGonigle each made nine saves for the Warriors.
