The original cast of Filsinger Games' popular card game "Champions of the Galaxy" will come to life in a live-action wrestling event to be held in Jamestown this week.
On Friday, the Allen Park Ice Rink will host the card, dubbed "The Great Galaxian Bash," in which renowned independent wrestlers from across North America will converge in a truly unique wrestling event.
The event was conceived and coordinated by Todd Joerchel and Jeff Gutherz, two longtime fans of the card game, who funded the event largely through a Kickstarter campaign that raised approximately $8,000. The money raised will pay for science fiction costumes, props and to pay the wrestling talent portraying the card game characters. The cast of "The Great Galaxian Bash" includes: Alex Reynolds, as Wolf; Orange Cassidy, as Star Warrior; and Chuck Taylor, as Thantos.
A unique live-action wrestling event featuring characters from Filsinger Games’ popular tabletop wrestling card game, “Champions of the Galaxy,” will take place at the Allen Park Ice Rink at 7:30 p.m. Friday. A classic wrestling card will follow, featuring several independent wrestlers from throughout the country, as well as Canada.
According to Tom Filsinger, owner of Filsinger Games and creator of "Champions of the Galaxy," the event will be enjoyable for fans of both wrestling and the card game alike - particularly children.
"For kids, this is basically like Star Wars, or the Avengers, meets the WWE," Filsinger said. "It's a really cool event for Jamestown, and a very unique one. (Joerchel and Gutherz) are taking the characters they grew up with, the first characters from the first 'Champions of the Galaxy' set, and bringing them to life. And I'm blown away by it, because they've shown so much ambition in pulling this off."
Randy Grey, of Grey Brothers Entertainment, said the event is also notable for the fact that it is the first wrestling event to take place at the Allen Park Ice Rink since the early 1980s, and is a fitting tribute to the 25th anniversary of the card game. Also on the bill to appear for an independent classic wrestling card that will follow "The Great Galaxian Bash" are: John McChesney, Marty Jannetty, Brutus Beefcake, Stevie Richards, Robert Evans, Papadon, John Silver, Malta the Damager, Jon Bolen, Bill Collier and Sage Strong. Filsinger will make a cameo as "The Dark Menace."
