Thumbs up to some much-deserved time in the limelight for the Lawson Boating Heritage Center in Bemus Point. WoodenBoat Magazine will include two pieces on Chautauqua Lake in its July/August issue - two pages on the Lawson Boating Heritage Center and a second story on Chautauqua Lake's Great White Fleet. The article explores the history of the Great White Fleet, and its symbiotic relationship to Chautauqua Institution. It features some 13 pictures, including an 1890s picture of nine of the steamers at the Jamestown boat landing. The issue is deserved time in the spotlight for Chautauqua Lake's boating history. Those interested in reading more can order the magazine at www.woodenboat.com. Those interested in actually seeing the lake's boating history can visit the museum at 73 Lakeside Drive, Bemus Point. Hours are 1-5 p.m. Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and 1-5 p.m. Sundays. The museum is also open from 1-5 p.m. Friday, July 5.
