To the Readers' Forum:
Recently I read in The Post-Journal, the article ''Hunters Are Silenced in Gun Debate.'' It started out all right, at least the first 35 words. As I read the rest of the article, my blood started to boil when they called the National Rifle Association ''extremist.'' I blew up! I am an NRA member and proud of it! I have guns because I enjoy them. I shoot clay pigeons, paper targets and a deer or turkey now and then. I am a hunter, a shooter, a member of the NRA and because I am an NRA member I am called an ''extremist.''
Please remember this: the Constitution is the Supreme Law of the land.
The First Amendment gives us freedom of Religion, Speech and Press, Rights of Assembly and Petition.
The Second Amendment gives us the right to bear arms. It says a well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. What part of infringed don't people understand? If it wasn't for the NRA, the Second Amendment would have been destroyed years ago and so would all of our guns.
Obama's hometown, the city of Chicago, where they have very strict gun control laws still had over 500 murders. How's that working for them?
I don't know the answers that will stop the gun violence. I would like to see the NRA and law enforcement people get together and come up with something that would work. Get the politicians out of it! they are only looking for votes or a pat on the pact.
Again, I am a hunter, gun owner and I belong to an organization called the NRA.
