It is so easy to armchair quarterback a decision especially when your not on the field (which is exactly what armchair quarterback is). The school had a difficult decision and I wonder what the psyche of the players was, I can only imagine what mine might be. If they weren't focused on the game I would think there would be more risk to them. I am not sure the dream of making it to the big time or even the reality of making it to the big time is worth the risk to these kids. Unfortunately we tend to focus on wealth and prestige rather than what is truly important. From what I have heard - the family has been able to remain focused on the important so the school ought to also.

We're making too much of this. We're looking at this kid as a hero. He's just a kid playing football.

"The future of some of these people may be affected by stopping this. Some might even "make it to the big time." Yes, we have people in this area that have played in the NFL - Jim McCusker and Shane Conlan are examples"

The Westfield-Brocton team didn't have anyone on their team that was recieving D1 attention let alone NFL caliber, no disrespect to them its just a fact. If a player wants to play football at the next level (Div III) he needs to compile game film and explain to the coach why he doesn't have more. Im sure the coach would understand.

But I think the award is a good Idea. A fundraiser for anual scholarship for a future college, tech school,ect.. bound football player at Brocton would be a nice way to remember this young man.
