This won't change a thing for the better. It will only make things worse. Look at Presidential campaign fundraising since they added the contribution choice on IRS Form 1040. The practical result will be politicians soliciting money from contributors by telling them that for every dollar they give, it will have a multiplier effect of 6 and "what better way to elect the candidate of your choice".

Public funding of elections is a no-brainer. History shows that politicians work for whoever pays to get them elected. Isn't it better if the "whoever" is "we the people"?

Perhaps this is no longer possible since the Citizens United decision in the SCOTUS, but we should try nonetheless.
