They Came From the Shadows

October 10, 2013 - Nicholas Terry
I’m going to try and keep this post even keeled. Words cannot express how awesome Teenage Bottlerocket are. They are the living and breathing evolution of The Ramones. Next to The Clash, The Ramones are without a doubt my favorite band of all time. Their music was fun, simple, and still somehow innovative.

Teenage Bottlerocket write fast, quick witted songs about everything from girls, to aliens, to skateboarding. Sometimes you need to just let go and have a good time. You can’t not have a good time listening to this music. Four albums in, and they’ve expanded their sound while maintaining the style they are known for. A la the timeline from The Ramones to Road to Ruin. Nothing will touch those records, but this is as close as you’re going to get.

Despite how I describe this band, they are not a direct rip off of their idols. Imitation is the sincerest form of flatter, right? They have their own sound, and clearly just want to have fun. It’s refreshing to see a band not about the money, or fame. They just want to play music and party. And when it comes down to it when we’re all down working hard for the week we all just want a little fun to make what we do all worth it. Tossing on one of these records after work makes whatever I had to do that day all worth it. Enjoy it with me, just don’t party too hard in your cubicle.
