Kudos To Whoever Made More Council Information Available To The Public

A pat on the back to Mayor Eddie Sundquist and the Jamestown City Council, under the direction of Council President Tony Dolce, R-Ward 2, for making more information about council meetings available to the public.

In the past, agendas for council meetings were kept fairly short and barebones. Over the past few months, however, the council’s packets made available to the media each week include memorandums from department heads justifying a proposed action or resolution and copies of reports that will be discussed by the council during that week’s meeting.

We’re not sure if this particular change came from Sundquist or Dolce, but it is a good change. The city has made information available in the past, and information was forthcoming when requested. The new packets do more than meet state open meetings requirements. They give the public that cares to pay attention a greater glimpse into what council members and city officials are dealing with each week and bring a greater understanding to the council’s deliberations.

To whoever made the change, kudos.
