Hands On Jamestown Cleanup Slated For Saturday

Here’s hoping for good weather for Saturday’s Hands on Jamestown cleanup.

The annual event, begun so many years ago by the Downtown Jamestown Development Corp. and carried on now by the Jamestown Renaissance Corp., takes place from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday throughout the city.

Preregistered volunteers for Hands On Jamestown will be notified of their clean up location on Wednesday and will receive a complimentary Hands On Jamestown T-shirt at registration. Volunteers who show up to participate the day of the event will be assigned a location and will receive a T-shirt while supplies last. For more information on Hands On Jamestown or to sign up as a group or an individual, visit www.jamestownrenaissance.org or call 664-2477, extension 226. Volunteers of Hands On Jamestown begin their morning at City Hall on event day with an 8 a.m. check-in and registration. Gloves, tools, garbage bags and other supplies are distributed by the City of Jamestown Parks Department at that time, but volunteers are encouraged to bring some of their own tools as supplies are limited. Volunteers then disperse to their designated clean-up locations for the rest of the morning.

It’s mind boggling that people think it’s OK to throw trash on the streets from their cars or as they walk. We’re thankful for those who will spend a Saturday morning cleaning up after other people’s messes.
