A showcase of some of the best that Chautauqua County has to offer continues throughout the week at the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds.

Now that the cannon has gone off, the Chautauqua County Fair is officially opened. Besides the traditional fare, including the popular demolition derby, the event also features new shows including Black Cat Hell Drivers and the Battle of the Bands.

“This is probably one of the most expensive grandstand shows we’ve had in many years, as far as lineup,” Mike Ferguson, director of marketing and promotions for the fair, said. “A lot of what we brought to the grandstand this year came from the New York State Fair Convention and a lot of it was just from the requests of folks to have even bigger and better grandstand shows.”

Local artwork, photography and crafts also will be showcased, as well as rides for the children and Chautauqua County 4-H events and animals.
