William L. “Bill” Yergens

Randolph, NY- William L. “Bill” Yergens, 95, formerly of Conewango Road, Randolph and Venice, Fla., passed away Sunday (February 5, 2023) at his residence at the Randolph Manor.

He was born October 12, 1927 in Huntington, Indiana the son of the late Walter and Clarabelle (Zollers) Yergens. Bill was graduate of Hornell High Central School, where he was a multi- sport athlete, and Devry Trade School in Chicago, where he received his training as an Electrician. .

He was a Veteran of the United States Navy, serving near the conclusion of WW II from 1945-1947. Bill worked and retired from MRC Bearings in Jamestown, where he was an Electrician.

Following retirement, he was self-employed, doing Electrician jobs around the area. In earlier years, he was a NYS Trooper, former Randolph Chief of Police, a former Interim Randolph Village Mayor, served as a Town of Randolph Assessor and served as a Trustee on the Randolph Village Board.

He was a member of the Randolph Volunteer Fire Company, Randolph American Legion Post 181, Cardinal Hills Golf Course in Randolph, former Randolph Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge.

He and his wife Joan, were known to cut a rug, as they were talented dancers, he also loved to golf, play cards and read.

He is survived by a daughter; Lisa (Christopher) Spencer of Shortsville, NY, three sons; Kenneth W. (Joy) Yergens of Jamestown, Gary M. (Kim) Yergens of San Marcos, CA., and Robert M. Yergens of Randolph, three grandchildren; Stephanie (Josh) Meddaugh of McDonough, Georgia, Chelsea Yergens of Dayton, Ohio and Olivia Spencer of Rochester, NY, and a great grandson, Ryan William Meddaugh.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Clarabelle, his wife of 62 years, Joan (Singley) Yergens, whom he married on September 29, 1956 and who preceded him on November 29, 2018, a brother Kendrick Yergens in 1998 and a sister, Doris MacMichael.

As per Bills wishes, there will be no visitation or services held at this time. A Celebration for this coming summer (2023) is being planned and will be announced later by the in the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church Street, Randolph. Inurnment will be in the St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Randolph at a later date.
