Wyatt M. Butcher

Wyatt M. Butcher

SOUTH DAYTON — Wyatt M. Butcher, 16, of South Dayton, passed away at his home Thursday, July 28, 2022, sadly due to a self-inflicted injury.

He was born on Oct. 5, 2005, the son of Julia Witherell and Michael W. Butcher.

Wyatt was a Pine Valley Central School student and attended BOCES P-Tech, where he was earning his high school diploma and an associates degree in welding. He exhibited a natural ability for welding and excelled at it. Wyatt had plans to go on for his bachelor’s degree in homeland security and later go active duty in the military. He was looking forward to the many adventures’ life would bring him and planned to travel after high school. Wyatt was always smiling and was well liked by everyone he met.

He was part of the South Dayton Fire Department, planned to join the National Guard in October, when he turned 17 and was a member of the Jamestown Rifle Club, where he participated in competition shooting.

Wyatt enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, playing video games, baseball and floor hockey, fishing ad hunting. He loved history and especially loved learning about historical military facts, which he would quiz everyone on. Wyatt was a great big brother and loved spending time with his siblings.

Words cannot express what a great young man Wyatt was, and his family has always been incredibly proud of his many achievements. Wyatt’s death is a tragedy that words cannot begin to explain for everyone that knew him and he will be greatly missed by many.

Survivors include his mother Julia Witherell (boyfriend, Joshua Doner); his father, Michael Butcher (second mom, Ashely Mann) both of South Dayton; siblings: Warren T. Butcher, John “Will” Thomas, Elwood Dustin and Amelia Butcher, all of South Dayton; maternal grandmother, Gloria (Klemens) Witherell of South Dayton; paternal grandparents, Rose (Kevin) Leach of Dunkirk, and John (Laurie) Butcher of Collins; and a large number of aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, John D. Witherell.
