Thomas A. Dorey

Thomas A. Dorey, of Celebration, Fla., formerly of Lakewood, N.Y., passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Tom was born in Buffalo, N.Y., on June 25, 1950, to Arthur and Ruby Dorey.

He was a 1968 graduate of Cardinal O’Hara High School in Tonawanda, N.Y. He attended Bucknell University and graduated from the University of Buffalo in 1972 with a Bachelors of Arts in psychology. He went on to attend the University of Buffalo Law School, graduating in 1976 with a Juris Doctorate in Law.

He began his legal career with Legal Services in Dunkirk, N.Y., and went on to practice law at Goodell and Dorey. For most of his career he was an attorney in the Social Services Department of Chautauqua County, as well as a United States Bankruptcy Trustee. Tom was a member of the Jamestown Bar Association.

Tom loved to write and penned a book entitled, The Life and Times of the Hotel Athenaeum. Tom was an avid athlete enjoying pickleball, tennis, rowing, hiking, and bicycling. For many years, he helped raise money for cancer research by participating in Ride for Roswell. Tom will be remembered as a loving husband and father. His children were his greatest pride and joy, and he was overjoyed to be a grandfather.

Tom is survived by his wife of 44 years, Rose; and his children: Kimberly (Brian) Nevinger of Rogers, Ark., and Kevin Dorey of Celebration, Fla.; and his grandson, Alexander Thomas Nevinger. He is also survived by his sister, Diane DeValentino of Kenmore, N.Y.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters: Mary Ludden and Carol Stone.

Family and friends are invited to join a celebration of Tom’s life. Visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m., Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at D. Lawrence Ginnane Funeral Home, 3215 Delaware Ave,, Buffalo, N Y 14127, followed by prayer service at 1 p.m., at the funeral home. The burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 4000 Elmwood Ave., Kenmore, NY 14217 after the prayer service. Following the funeral, family and friends are invited to attend a luncheon at Classics V, 2425 Niagara Falls Boulevard, Amherst, NY 14228.
