James Jay Phillips

James Jay Phillips, 84, of Garland, Pa., passed away at UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pa., on Jan/ 23, 2022.

He was born April 20, 1937, in Randolph Township, Crawford County, Pa, to the late Charles and Margaret (Gibney) Phillips. He lived several years with his foster parents, Milty and Gertrude Ongley of Grand Valley, Pa.

A graduate of Titusville Colestock High School in 1958, he retired from the National Forge after 37 years of dedicated service. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army. He was an avid racing fan, country music lover and wild turkey and whitetailed deer hunter.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Roxene (Bull) Phillips; his children: Pamela Kinney of Corry, Pa, James B. Phillips of Warren, Pa, Deborah Hunter of Warren, Pa, Steven Phillips (Martha) of Columbia, S.C., Kimberly Bobik (Gregory) of Downingtown, Pa., and Dennis Phillips of Jamestown, N.Y.; his grandchildren: Lillian Bobik and Thaddeus Phillips; his sisters: Mary Jane Okruch of Russell, Pa., and Martha Smith of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Lula Mercier of Saegerstown, Pa.; his brothers: Orlo Phillips, William Phillips, Joseph Phillips and Charles Phillips of Warren, Pa., and Donald Phillips of Boise, Idaho.

Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, Jan. 27, at the Nelson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 314 N. Main St., Youngsville, PA 16371, from 4-7 p.m. A funeral service will be held there on Friday at 11 a.m. Burial will take place at Warren County Memorial Park and will be private.
