Phoebus S. Oberst

Phoebus S. Oberst, 96, of Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, Dec. 6, 2021.

Born July 11, 1925, in Trucksville, Pa., a daughter of the late Francis A. and Hattie M. Ide Smith.

She was a 1943 graduate of Kingston Township High School, Trucksville, Pa. She was employed as a finisher at Kingston Cake Company, Kingston, Pa. She was a fulltime homemaker, while raising her family in N. Chili, N.Y., then later enjoyed working at Roberts Wesleyan College in the mailroom before retiring.

Phoebe has been a member of the Free Methodist Church since 1941 and served in various ministries. In the pas,t she spent summers at Lighthouse Christian Camp, Barker, N.Y., was active in Rodeo City Senior Citizens and volunteered at Heritage Village.

Phoebe loved spending time with her grandchildren and traveling to their events. She was a wonderful cook who often entertained her friends and family.

Devoted wife of 61 years to the late Alan E. Oberst whom she married June 14, 1947 and who died Aug. 8, 2008; mother of Karen of Heritage Village and Alan K. Oberst of Buffalo, Donna (Norman) Brice of Columbus, N.C., and Elaine (Peter) Prusak of Culpepper, Va.; grandmother of 10; great-grandmother of 15; sister of the late Mary Heberling, Ruth Stevenson, Ida Hughes, Edith Hoover, Arminta Martz, Donald, Clinton, Stacy and Howard Smith.

Services are private. Burial in Gerry Cemetery.
