Deborah A. (Dewey) McCown

She was born Dec. 6, 1953, in Westfield, the daughter of the late Perry Sr. and Marjorie (Spinks) Dewey.

A lifelong resident of the area, Deborah was a graduate of Fredonia High School with the class of 1971. She had been employed as an office manager for the Faculty Student Association (FSA) at SUNY Fredonia, retiring in 2011.

She was a member of the Northern Chautauqua Conservation Club, Fredonia Beaver Club, and a former member of Cassadaga Country Club, where she played in the women’s golf league. Deborah enjoyed spending winters in Florida, golfing, and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include one daughter, Mollie A. (Dan Dudzic) McCown of Dun-kirk; two grandsons: Taylor Mattoon and Jonathan Ganey; one sister, Doris “Sissy” (Perry) Beckerink of Clymer; one brother, David (Roberta) Dewey of Dunkirk; sister-in-law, Betty Dewey of Sherman; her loving companion, Dan Dietzen; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gary A. McCown, who died Sept. 17, 2012; and one brother, Perry Dewey Jr.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m. in the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. The Rev. Holly Clark-Porter will officiate. Calling hours will be held Monday from 4-7 p.m., three hours prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the RO Foundation or a charity of one’s choice.
