Ruth Elaine (VanHorn) Boardman

Ruth Elaine (VanHorn) Boardman, 88, went home to be in the presence of her Heavenly Father and reunited with her husband, Bruce who passed away two months ago. They displayed their love and commitment to one another for 66 years.

She was raised in Sinclairville, N.Y., along with her three sisters. Her father was beekeeper with over 700 hives, transporting them in the fall from New York to Florida and back in the spring. She was a 1949 graduate of Cassadaga School, at the age of 16, having split her time between school in New York and Florida.

She graduated WCA School of Nursing in 1953. She worked in Buffalo General Hospital, Lutheran Social Services, WCA Hospital as a staff nurse in the nursery, and for a short time for The Post-Journal.

She was a active in her church teaching junior high girls Sunday school, helping in the nursery and designing the church kitchen.

She also taught Bible study at Jamestown Community College.

Ruth is survived by two sisters: Mary (Dale) Griffith of Jamestown and Joyce (David) Burgeson of Florida; three sons: Randy (Becky) of Maryland, Todd (Gail) of Jamestown and Chris (Andrea) of Collegeville, Pa.; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a five -week-old daughter, Pamela; 54-year-old son, Greg; sister, Doris Swanson; and parents Walter and Marion VanHorn.

Friends will be received at the Falconer Funeral Home from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 24, with a service for family and relatives at 2 p.m.
