Betty Louise Redington

Betty Louise Redington 97, formerly of Hultquist Place and Randolph, N.Y., passed away on Monday, April 12, 2021, at the Lutheran Home and Rehab Center in Jamestown, N.Y.

She was born on Oct. 10, 1923, in Point Marion, Pa., the oldest daughter of the late Levin and Grace Phalon Larson.

Betty graduated in 1941 from Port Allegany High School and had worked at the Randolph Manor and the former Quality Markets as well as working beside her husband in the meat department of the former Market Basket in Randolph.

Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James Levi Redington who she married in Kansas City, MO while he was serving in the U.S. Army. They celebrated their 71st anniversary on March 20, 2014, and he passed away on September 14, 2014. Also, she was also preceded by her son, Douglas Lee Redington, who passed away on March 25, 2016 as well as two infant sons, three brothers Robert, Carlton and John (Jack) Larson and sisters, Beverly Comes, Donna Jewart and Lois Howe as well as a son-in-law Nick Digirolamo.

She is survived by a son; Gary (Peggy Cradduck) Redington of Olean NY, two daughters, Cathy Digirolamo of Las Vegas, Nev., and Peggy John of Rolesville, N.C., a daughter-in-law Cathy Redington of Cherry Creek N.Y.; seven grandchildren: Stephanie and Adam Jaquay of Las Vegas, Nev., Jessica (Michael) Winder of Nescopeck, Pa., Stacie Hebner and Denny (Laura) John of Youngsville, N.C., Joshua (Haleigh) Redington of Seattle WA and John “JD” (Liza) Redington of New Bern, N.C.; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; her sister, Marjorie Burr of Smethport, Pa., and a sister-in-law, Shirley Larson of Port Allegany, Pa., as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was devoted to her husband Jim whom she loved and cared for while he was coping with Alzheimer’s. She enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, crocheting, embroidering, playing Bingo and she loved spending holidays with family.

Relatives and friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday (April 16, 2021) at the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church St., Randolph, N.Y. Burial will be in the Randolph Cemetery.
