James Paul Burdic

ASHVILLE, NY –It is with a heavy, but joyful heart that the family of James Paul Burdic, 70, of Hunt Road, Ashville, announce the loss of a wonderful father, husband, Papa and friend, as he has been made whole again and is now rejoicing with his loved ones that have gone before him, Jim passed away Saturday, Dec. 5, 2020, in the emergency department at UPMC- Chautauqua.

He was born Dec. 12, 1949, in Gowanda, the son of the late Charles and Doris (Smith) Burdic.

He attended Randolph Central School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam War era. Prior to retirement, James worked for Lexington Die Cast in Lakewood.

He was a life member of the Kennedy Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Lakewood American Legion Post 1286. James was an avid hunter, and he enjoyed taking young hunters into the woods and teaching them how to hunt and hunt the right way. He was an enthusiast of many sports where he could watch his children excel. He enjoyed playing softball with the Kennedy Fire Department Team. He was a coach for summer girls softball. He liked racing cars, fishing and telling hunting and fishing stories. Most of all, he loved his family and being a Papa.

He is survived by his wife, Judy A. (Bergman) Burdic, whom he married on Aug. 29, 2015; a son, James (Yukiko) Burdic Jr. of Fulton, N.Y.; a daughter, Tricia (Arthur) Wolf of Meadville, Pa.; a step-daughter, Jennifer Short of Jamestown; a stepson, Dale (Karlee) Tremblay Jr. of Ashville; six grandchildren, Miwa Burdic, Koji Burdic, Deiken Wolf, Reese Short, Cameron Short and Rayna Tremblay; a brother, David Burdic of Alaska; two sisters; Donna Greenwood of California and Rita Potts of Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Doris; siblings: Charles, Ray and Robert Burdic, Margaret Greathouse, Esther Miller, Jo Ann Barber, Frances Smith and Beatrice Kranking.

The family will receive relatives and friends for a walk through visitation on Friday (Dec. 11, 2020) from 3-6 p.m., at the Van-Rensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church St., Randolph.

Funeral services to follow at 6 p.m. Masks and social distancing are required. The Rev. Steven Taylor will officiate. Military Honors will be conducted in conclusion to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials, if desired, may be left in his memory to the Kennedy Volunteer Fire Department. James’ final gift, was the gift of life, as he donated tissue and his corneas to Connect Life.
