Shirley A. Whitton

Shirley A. Whitton, 82, of Jamestown, N.Y., passed away on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2020 at the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center.

Shirley was born on May 25, 1938 in Jamestown, N.Y., the daughter of the late John and Edith Simmes Lord. She graduated from Panama High School in 1956.

Shirley started working as a housekeeper in private homes and Murphy’s Department Store in Warren, Pa. She was the department head at Hills Department Stores. She was a member of First Church of God.

Shirley enjoyed reading and plastic canvas crafts. Her family was her main priority. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting things for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Shirley will be remembered for her great sense of humor

Shirley is survived by her two sons: Paul C. (Patricia) Holley of James-town, N.Y. and Timothy Knisley of Gerry, N.Y.; three daughters: Cindy L. Taylor (Rick Martin) of Jamestown, Dianna L. Knisley of Jamestown and Brenda M. (Driscas) Gamble of Las Vegas, Nev.; two brothers: Melvin (Ellen) Lord of Blockville, N.Y. and Richard (Joyce) Lord of Spring Creek, Pa.; several grandchildren and great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Clayton R. Whitton whom she married on August 25, 1975 and who died on July 12, 1985;her son: Dennis L. Whitton; two brothers: Robert Lord and Charles Lord; three sisters: Doris Lutz, Joyce Wells and Norma Catanese.

Family and friends may call at Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home, Inc., 316 East Fifth Street, Jamestown, N.Y. on Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. A funeral service will be held there at 1 p.m. Retired Pastor Myron Myers will officiate, retired pastor of First Church of God. CDC guidelines for social distancing of six feet as well as mandatory face masks are required. Inurnment will be in Lake View Cemetery.
