Betty J. Vaccaro

Betty J. Vaccaro, 87, formerly of Euclid Avenue, Jamestown, N.Y., and Brookdale of Lakewood, N.Y., passed away Sunday, Sept. 27, 2020, in the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility.

A lifelong area resident, she was born May 3, 1933 in Jamestown, N.Y., a daughter of the late Nunzio and Carmella Portagallo DeSantis.

Betty was a graduate of Jamestown High School and was a past member of the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club Auxiliary.

She was employed for many years by the former Jamestown Sterling Corporation and in earlier years had worked for the James-town Worsted Mills and in later years for the James-town Post Journal.

She will be remembered as a loving and caring mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her much joy and laughter. She enjoyed hav-ing large family gatherings and sharing her delicious pies that she loved to bake.

Surviving are two daughters; Debra (Stan) Zegaczewski of Jamestown, and Diane (Daniel) Victory of Weston, Fla.; four grandchildren; Michael (Michelle) Zegaczewski of Lakeview, N.Y., Stacey (Joshua) Daniels of James-town, Danielle Victory and Derek Victory, both of Tex-as; four great-grandchildren; Myla and Kalyn Zegaczewski, Carley and Gillian Daniels; and a brother, James (Joanne) DeSantis.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph J. Vaccaro, whom she married July 28, 1951 and who died Feb. 8, 1995; three brothers; Louis DeSantis, Philip DeSantis and Patsy DeSantis; and two sisters; Katherine Mancini and Rose Kij.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m., Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home followed by a private family service. The Rev. Dennis W. Mende, pastor of Holy Apostles Parish will officiate. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery.

Betty’s family would like to thank the staff at Heritage Green and Chautauqua County Hospice and Palliative Care for their loving and compassionate care they provided to Betty these past several months.
