George Merritt Reynolds

George Merritt Reynolds, 89, of St. Columbans On the Lake, formerly of Fredonia, went to be with his Lord on June 28, 2020.

Born July 13, 1930, in Wilmington, Del., he is a son of the late Howard and Katherine Andrus Reynolds. As a young child he lived in Elmira, as a teenager in Avoca and was a 1948 graduate of Avoca Central School.

He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving is the U.S. Army from 1951-54 and was honorably discharged as a sergeant.

George was then employed by Erie- Lackawanna Railroad for 15 years.

In 1962 he received his registered nursing degree from Rochester State Hospital of Nursing.

He was employed as supervisor of nursing at Eastman Kodak Elmgrove, Hawkeye and Kodak Park Plants, Rochester for 21 years, retiring in 1989.

He was a 58 year member of the Masons and was also active member of Parkminster Church in Rochester and the Laona Methodist Church.

After retirement, George and his wife, Bonnie spent 13 years living summers in Thousand Islands and for 15 years in The Villages, Fla., returning to live in the north in 2007.

He enjoyed fishing, golfing, boating, corn hole, Kindle solitaire and reading. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tell a good joke and join the laughter. He also loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Husband of 65 years to Bonnalyn “Bonnie” Edmond Reynolds, whom he married July 2, 1955; father of Debra (Claude) McAvoy, William (Christine) Reynolds, and Susan (Brian) McAvoy; grandfather of Traci (David) Avila, Angela Bittinger, Julie (Jamie) Hebner, David (Sara) McAvoy, Joshua (Marrisa) Reynolds, Jocelyn (Mark) Rauch, Justin (Emily) Reynolds and Alan (Rachael) McAvoy; great-grandfather of 24 and one great-great-grandson; brother of the late Phyllis Benedict, Bessie Chabot, Oakley and John Reynolds. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Private graveside service at Burnham Hollow Cemetery, Arkwright. Military honors will be provided by Cassadaga American Legion Post 1280. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
