GOWANDA — Robert L. Burdic Sr., 83, of the Gowanda Rehab and Nursing Center, and Derby, formerly of Chery Creek, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2010, at the home and 10 years to the day (within hours) of losing his beloved wife, Clara.

He was born March 10, 1937, in Eldred, Pa., the son of the late Charles and Doris (Smith) Burdic.

He attended Schools in Pennsylvania and New York prior to entering the U.S. Army. Robert was a veteran of the Korean War era, serving proudly from Nov. 28, 1955, until being honorably discharged on Oct. 19, 1957.

Prior to retirement, he had worked for Falconer Plate and Glass in Falconer and for many years at Carborundum in Falconer, from where he retired.

He is survived by three daughters; his caregiver and advocate, Bonnie Burdic Fredrickson of Derby, N.Y., Kathleen Smith and Geraldine Klever, both of Delevan; three sons: Gary Burdic of South Carolina, Robert Burdic Jr. of Phoenix, Ariz., and Paul Burdic of Panama. Many grandchildren and great- grandchildren.

He is additionally survived by four siblings: Donna Greenwood of California, Rita Potts of Texas, David Burdic of Frewsburg and James Burdic of Ashville

He was preceded by his parents, Charles and Doris; wife, Clara L. Knapp Burdic, whom he married Nov. 21, 1952, in Rochester, and who preceded him on May 10, 2010; three sons: Timothy, James and John Burdic; and a daughter, Gloria Burdic. Additionally preceded in death by his siblings: Charles, Ray, and Robert Burdic, Margaret Greathouse, Esther Miller, Jo Ann Barber, Frances Smith and Beatrice Kranking.

Due to the restrictions of Covid-19, visitation will not be observed. A private graveside service with military honors will be held in the Steamburg Cemetery.
