Helen E. Kjornsberg

Helen E. Kjornsberg, 79, of Lakewood, passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2020, at home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born at home on June 6, 1940, in Bear Lake, Pa., a daughter of the late Paul and Lora Cornish Schenck.

She was a 1958 graduate of Eisenhower High School.

After moving to Jamestown at 18, she first started working at Crescent Tool followed by Hartford Insurance Co., Winturn Realty and eventually the Foster Grandparent Program, where she was the assistant to the director. She loved doing this and loved all of the “grandma’s” that participated. For many decade,s she was a census taker. After retirement, she worked for the Office of the Aging. She was also on the Board of CHRIC for many years.

She was a member of the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, Lakewood Legion, Jamestown Eagles and Celoron Moose

Outside of spending time with her loving family, she enjoyed her trips to Seneca Allegheny and to the Good Time Saloon to play Quick Draw. She was an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills. Helen would go to the ends of the earth for her family.

Helen is survived by her three children; Wendy (Russell Lee) Schmidt, David (Janelle Newcomb) Kjornsberg, Marcy (Max) Miles; four grandchildren: Lindsay and Matthew Schmidt and Eric and Garrett Peterson; two sisters: Pauline (Bob) Schenck- Girts and Phyllis Jordan; four sisters-in-law: Jackie, Linda, Romey and Donna Schenck; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Bruce Peteron; five brothers: Paul “Junie” Schenck Jr., Robert Schenck, Albert Schenck, Ronald Schenck and Kenneth Schenck; and two sisters: Dorian Sechriest and Dorothy Matjoulis.

Due to the restrictions of Covid-19, no visitation will be observed. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Inurnment will be in the Bear Lake Cemetery.
