Jean Ann (Craig) Hewitt

Jean Ann Hewitt of Heritage Park, Prather Avenue, Jamestown, N.Y., passed away April 6, 2020, due to natural causes at the age of 77.

Born in Armagh, Pa., on Nov. 12, 1942, she lived her earliest years in Johnstown Pa., and then as a Chautauqua County resident since 1972.

Jean was the daughter of Albert and Gwendolyn McCathran Craig of Armagh, Pa., and had one sister, Janet Becker; and two brothers: James and Albert Craig. Jean attended Garfield Elementary and High School in Pennsylvania.

After moving to Jamestown, Jean attended Bethel Baptist Church. Her faith was extremely important to her and she spent a lot of time at the church when she wasn’t working or taking care of her family. Some of her favorite memories were of her children and the fun they had together. Jean worked at the former Warner Home in Jamestown, N.Y., for years as a waitress.

Jean became a resident at Heritage Park in November 2012 and always made the best of her situation. Whenever there was an activity, Jean was usually there. She participated in all activities offered, especially church, bowling, bingo and balloon volleyball. Jean always had a smile and enjoyed brightening the days of other residents and staff. While at Heritage Park, she was nominated resident of the quarter (2015) and served on the Executive Council for one year.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Gwendolyn (Mc Cathran) Craig; brother, Jim Craig; and sister, Janet Becker.

Jean is survived by her brother, Albert (Freelove) Craig Jr.; a son, Arnold Allen Hewitt; a daughter, Diane G. Hewitt-Johnson; grandchildren: Angela (Dustin) Barrett and Katleyn Hewitt, great- grandchildren; Chloe, Bella, Serenity and Autumn Barrett; and several nieces and nephews.

A private celebration of life will be held for close family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
