Christopher A. Smith

Christopher A. Smith, 48, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 19, 2020, in his home in Celoron.

He was born Aug. 27, 1971, in Jamestown, the son of Leon F. and Nancy Larson Smith.

Christopher attended the Hewes Educational Center in Ashville until the age of 21. He lived at home with his mother until her passing in 1993, at which time he moved into the Foote Avenue ICF Facility. In 2017, the Resource Center on Gifford Ave. became his home. The staff at the Resource Center became his second family and Christopher’s siblings are most grateful for the loving care he received over the years.

Christopher participated in Special Olympics, loved swimming, fishing, camping, being around people, going barefoot, car rides, and red was his favorite color. He had the biggest smile and infectious laugh. He was loved by everyone who knew him.

Surviving besides his father of Jamestown are his siblings: Timothy (Ann Marie) Smith of Hillsborough, N.J., Suzanne (Kennie) Campbell of Jamestown, Stephen Smith of Anoka, Minn., Laurie (Dave) Hamblen of Easley, S.C., Mark (Sheila) Smith of Jamestown, David (Julie) Smith of Clarence Center, N.Y., Daniel (Lianne) Smith of Petaluma, Calif., Paul (Donna) Smith and Jennifer (John) Anderson, both of Kenmore, NY; Michael Smith of Ephrata, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother who died Feb. 21, 1993.

The family will have a private service on Tuesday March 24, at 2 p.m. Prayers will be led by the Rev. Gerald A. Haglund, longtime friend of the family.

Visitation will not be observed.

Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
